This will be two hour delivery from Whole Foods store to its prime members in neighborhoods of Austin, Cincinnati, Dallas and Virginia Beach.

The new deal went into effect on Thursday.

The Amazon Prime Now delivery service now covers Whole Foods groceries as well, with free two-hour deliveries.

Greeley is the first high-profile Amazon executive known to be spending time at Whole Foods, the grocery chain Amazon bought for $13.7 billion past year.

Expect to see more integration between Amazon's technology and Whole Foods. Most of those - about three-quarters - get their orders delivered to their door; the rest pick it up at the store.

Since the acquisition, Amazon has dropped prices of certain items at Whole Foods, while adding some Whole Foods products online. Deliveries are available between 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. local time.

Whole Foods deliveries are now available from 8am to 10pm, and Amazon claims that customers will be able to shop for "thousands" of items.

Online-to-home grocery delivery is nothing new.

"When (not if) broader changes are made, Whole Foods' traction will pressure other grocers - not just large public players but also smaller independents", the analysts wrote in a recent note to investors. Getting those customers to link Amazon and groceries could further tie it into the nation's shopping habits and give it a bigger chunk of the more than $600 billion US grocery market. Since then, the companies have introduced Amazon lockers in Whole Foods Market stores.

Amazon announced today that it will start delivering Whole Foods items to select customers through Prime Now.

Whole Foods also offers delivery in some cities through a partnership with delivery service Instacart, which will continue.

It is estimated that Amazon now holds over 18% of the market share for online sales of groceries in the U.S. However, Amazon has big plans to roll this out nationwide very soon.
