The incident started at about 7 p.m. when officers were called to the scene of a disturbance at the Breckinridge Point Apartments near East Renner and North Star roads.

The alleged gunman barricaded himself inside an apartment unit, firing a weapon at random. Witnesses said the suspect could be heard shouting "I'm sorry" as he was taken into custody. Walker was the first Little Elm officer to die in the line of duty.

That same month, Fort Worth officer Matt Pearce was shot several times while pursuing a pair of robbery suspects.

The civilian who died in the shooting has also not been identified. He was taken to Medical city Plano but his name was not released while Richardson police worked to notify family and loved ones. "Richardson police arrested him in 2016 on a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance, records showed. It can be quite taxing on all of these officers emotionally because they just lost their fellow officer, the first one in the history of the department", Tilley said.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott posted the following message on Twitter, along with other law enforcement agencies following suit. But.this is a police department of professionals.

"May God rest his soul".
