A police officer and two sheriff's deputies were shot Friday morning in Locust Grove, Ga., south of Atlanta, and the suspect in the shooting was killed, authorities say.

The two Henry County deputies were veterans, McBrayer said.

The suspect was shot and killed by police on the scene, which was inside a home on St. Francis Court near the Tanger Outlet.

The GBI said it has identified the suspect, but is withholding his name pending notification of his family.

"They notified radio and a Locust Grove city police officer came to be a backup for them", McBrayer said during a news briefing.

Both deputies were taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

Channel 2's Tyisha Fernandes watched on as police officers escorted children home in the Hawthorne at Linden Park subdivision in Locust Grove.

Sheriff Keith McBrayer told the newspaper that one deputy was in critical condition and the other was stable Friday afternoon.

Locust Grove is about 40 miles southeast of Atlanta. The other deputy's vest stopped the bullet, and he was listed in fair condition. Corley was shot in the chest when the bullet penetrated his bulletproof vest, his brother said.

He said officers had no motivation to accept when they arrived that the suspect would be savage, however it ended up noticeably clear that he wouldn't run with them readily. Police told 11Alive there was not an active scene and was not connected to this shooting.
