Hamlin, 31, was among eight nominees on the ballot for the flag-bearer role and tied with speed skater Shani Davis before the U.S. Olympic Committee ultimately decided with a coin toss, which caused a stir.

Maybe next time if there's a 4-4 vote just have both athletes do it? Hamlin, who is white, won a coin toss, which was the predetermined method of picking a victor if all else failed in the athlete-led process.

The 35-year-old declined to comment on his social media outburst after a training session at the Gangneung Oval on Friday.

Erin Hamlin, who won bronze in the luge in Socchi in 2014, is the United States' flag bearer.

The women's luge competition will get underway on February 12, when Hamlin will look to add another medal to her collection.

Hamlin's already announced her intent to retire from the sport following the games.

"He told me and I was like, 'Wait, officially?'" Hamlin said, still in disbelief.
