Jurgen Klopp unsure about Simon Mignolet Liverpool future

Liverpool have had problems finding a first-choice goalkeeper ever since Pepe Reina's departure to Bayern Munich in 2014.

There was a switch at the turn of the year, when Karius played in the league and Mignolet had the two FA Cup ties against Everton and West Brom but there will not be a switch in Portugal.

Neither Simon Mignolet nor Loris Karius have established themselves as a consistent and reliable starter for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp has understandably been in the market for a replacement for some time.

However, Klopp was coy when speaking about Mignolet and insisted that he was unsure what the future holds for his goalkeeper.

"Nobody knows about his future. I don't like to talk too much about it because we are only interested in the next game, but [his performance at Southampton] was important", enthused the gaffer.

"It says nothing about it".

"I know comparisons will be made to 2005 but I really don't think they should be".

The former Sunderland stopper's lack of game-time combined with reports of Liverpool's desire to sign a new goalkeeper could soon lead to the end of his near five year stint on Merseyside, but Klopp chose to remain non-committal over the 29-year-old's future as he focuses exclusively on his side's clash with Porto.

The Merseyside outfit are now in third place in the Premier League table as they chase Champions League qualification for the second season running under Jurgen Klopp.

"On a good day we are really strong, but we need to be outstandingly strong to get a result against Porto", he added.
