The French midfielder's poor form has been the subject of much discussion recently, with some reports suggesting the player is becoming unsettled at United after failing to play 90 minutes in the club's last three games against Tottenham, Huddersfield and Newcastle.

British media have said United's record signing is increasingly frustrated with his role at United but Mourinho shot down talk of friction with Pogba before Saturday's FA Cup fifth-round clash at Huddersfield Town.

An irate Mourinho dismissed suggestions there was any issue between Pogba and him.

'I don't have to speak with you about my conversations with my players - it's my problem and the player's problem, ' said Mourinho, who had originally confirmed that Pogba would be playing this weekend's cup game.

"I accept and can speak on Paul's behalf without any kind of problem".

'Paul accepts he has not been playing well but that's all.

"When I don't want to say things, I don't say, but I don't take you in other directions".

"We are looking and we are going to try to sign a midfield player".

"When people ask us if we like it, if we don't like it, if we agree with it or don't agree with it, I think honestly it's a question for the referees", Mourinho told MUTV.

"The team needs him at a good level and when he isn't the team is not as good".

Pogba has struggled to find his best form of late, something Mourinho has acknowledged, but the Portuguese coach slammed comments about their apparently fractious relationship as "lies". Since the moment I knew Paul can not play.

The youngster has featured 14 times for the club after making his debut towards the end of last season.

"He had a big injury in the season, a big injury", Mourinho said.

This will the first time United faces a Premier League opponent during the tournament.

"No (for tomorrow), chance (for Sevilla)", Mourinho said of the pair.

There have been mixed reactions to the VAR system, which has been used in a handful of League Cup and FA Cup ties. "Especially Aaron, who has played on a very high level against Bournemouth - back to his best". He also missed three league matches to serve his suspension for getting a straight red card against Arsenal.
