On improving India-Canada bilateral trade ties, he said there is a "lot of room to grow", and emphasised the need to strengthen people to people ties between the two countries.

The Canadian prime minister is on a week-long visit to India accompanied by wife Sophie Gregoire Trudeau and three children - Ella-Grace, Xavier and Hadrien. "Sukhbir Badal will welcome the Canadian PM at the Golden Temple". Trudeau is also expected to visit the partition museum, added officials. But on Monday, he appreciated Trueau's efforts in strengthening the connection between Punjab and Canada.

The trip comes almost three years after Modi visited Canada in April 2015. There has been no breach in protocol; no snub to the Canadian PM.

Trudeau felt that a country like India can and should be leading the way in respecting diversity and highlighting this incredible diversity.

The Canadian government denied the reports this week.

He has asked the officials to ensure the best of facilities to the Canadian Prime Minister, his family and his entourage to make their visit to the holy city a pleasant and memorable one. The Congress leader had earlier refused to meet Trudeau, claiming that his cabinet members were connected and supported the formation of Khalistan.

Amarinder Singh had gone public to label Sajjan and other ministers of Indian origin in the Trudeau government as "Khalistani sympathizers".

Now, with Sajjan's intervention, the meeting between Capt Amarinder and Trudeau is official. Diplomats have noted that the visit appears to be heavy on photo opportunities and light on substantive engagements, with just half a day of the eight-day visit set aside for official engagements. He had called it a "gag order". "We of course reject violence and hate speech".

"My position and Canada's position has not changed. We are discussing the potential of growth in pulses". As many as 7.7 million Canadians - or more than 22 per cent of the population - belong to a sizeable minority. There have been widespread concerns in India that Sikh terrorism is rearing its head again, fuelled by "liberal" support and funds in the West.

Amarinder Singh has now directed the state administration to roll out the red carpet for Trudeau. The following day, he will be in the capital. Is this a business trip paid for by the taxpayers of Canada? The Canadian leader in is scheduled to reach Mumbai today evening.

"Our economic relationship with India, while growing, is still modest".

Diplomatic circles are aghast with media reports over the so-called snub to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who did not get the kind of reception in Delhi as they were hoping for him.

In 2016, the latest year for which statistics are available, it was at $8.4 billion. That may not seem much, but it has more than doubled since 2010, when bilateral trade was at United States dollars 3.21 billion. These interactions with business forums might see improvement on that front.

"I think the rest of the world is learning about leadership from you", Mahindra told Trudeau in a brief, public portion of their meeting Tuesday. "In fact, when official talks are held on February 23, some of these sticking issues can be sorted out", said an MEA source. The meeting with Modi is next on the day's plan. The visit is aimed at bolstering bilateral relations between the two countries in key areas of mutual interest trade and investment, energy, science and innovation, higher education, infrastructure development, skill development and, space, a ministry statement said.
