Sean Miller was not on the bench to coach Arizona's game Saturday against OR in the wake of an ESPN report that detailed his involvement in a discussion to pay a potential recruit. Ayton signed with Arizona and is a freshman on this year's team.

The Arizona Board of Regents held an emergency session Saturday and received legal advice on the issue, board chair Bill Ridenour said in a statement.

Miller left Eugene before the game and did not travel back with the team's charter flight, and Romar said he didn't know how long he might keep coaching in Miller's place.

Ayton started against OR and had 28 points and 18 rebounds in the loss.

Ayton's family claims his commitment to Arizona had nothing to do with money and everything to do with relationships and proximity. I suspect Arizona won't be the only program starting from scratch after what could be a nuclear winter throughout college basketball.

So, you knew that Ayton - the projected top pick in the upcoming NBA Draft - would hear it from the OR fans at Matthew Knight Arena. According to sources familiar with the government's evidence, Sean Miller and Dawkins discussed paying $100,000 to ensure that Ayton?would sign with the Wildcats. Former Arizona assistant Emanuel "Book" Richardson has been arrested in the case.

"We weren't ready for the physicality of the game", said Altman, who declined to comment on Miller, a coach he's known since their days as Missouri Valley Conference foes. The school fired Richardson on January 11.

Arizona announced Saturday afternoon that Ayton "is eligible and will play" against Oregon.

Jackson-Cartwright didn't want to go into details about Miller's departure, nor did Romar have much to add.

The 7-foot-1 Bahaman center is averaging 19.6 points and 10.9 rebounds per game, leading the Wildcats to a No. 14 overall ranking and the top ranking in the Pac-12 standings with three games remaining. "I think you look at his play tonight and it seemed like he handled it pretty well".

"It's disappointing to all fans of college basketball".

It's worth noting that two of Romar's former players at Washington, Markelle Fultz and Dejounte Murray, were mentioned in Yahoo!'s report as among those who received money from the agent the FBI is investigating.

Sean Miller met with the Arizona Wildcats during the day Saturday, and then took off.
