BJP usurped power through proxy in Meghalaya:Rahul

The election in one seat was countermanded due to the death of the CPM candidate. The previous Communist government had streamlined land ownership rights for the tribes, but it had failed to deliver any subsequent reforms. However, when questioned, the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Siddararamaiah, has said that Congress' target is the so-called communal party of BJP.

"The BJP's vote share in the state has shot up to 40 percent from a mere 2.1 percent in 2013", she said.

While the BJP-IPFT combine has scripted history by winning the Tripura Assembly polls with two-third majority, Meghalaya witnessed a fractured mandate with the ruling Congress emerging as the largest party but only marginally ahead of rival National People's Party, providing the smaller parties with an opportunity to play kingmaker.

Akhtar, who is also the State Government spokesman, expressed the hope that with the fresh public approval of his policies and programmes, the Prime Minister would give a new impetus to his intensive developmental and inclusive political agenda.

He claimed that the NPF has passed a resolution stating that they want to continue the alliance with the BJP.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Sunday that the people of Northeast India had rejected the "politics of hate" by "unanimously" voting the Bharatiya Janata Party to power, PTI reported.

In Tripura, the Congress was first sidelined by the BJP, which usurped the position of the main Opposition party before the polls.

Banerjee also accusing the ruling party at the Centre of showering money in Tripura and misusing central forces in its favour during the elections.

The victory, especially in Tripura, goes beyond electoral gains. As India prepares for parliamentary elections next year, these wins will lend the BJP further momentum. Today peace and non-violence has prevailed over fear.

Manik Sarkar won in his constituency in Dhanpur, but his party CPI-(M), which led the 25-year old Left Front government, cut a sorry figure with 16 seats in the hilly state of northeast India.

He described the Tripura election as an "epoch-making one".

Infusing the ideological element with a customised political strategy, BJP started approaching the tribals, not only promising them a better economic deal but also cultural prominence. "We will leave no stone unturned in transforming Tripura", Modi said. This was accepted by Nagaland Governor PB Acharya, who said the three-time Chief Minister had majority and should form the Government.
