Excluding passes thrown by Green Bay's atrocious backup QB Brett Hundley, Nelson caught over 80 percent of the passes thrown his way by QB Aaron Rodgers over the past two seasons.

The Packers announced the move Tuesday, a day before teams can begin to sign free agents.

The 32-year-old Nelson was scheduled to make $10.25 million in salary and bonuses in the final season of a four-year, $39 million contract.

Nelson, 33, spent his entire 10-year career in Green Bay, but he slowed down significantly last season.

So indeed, where does this leave quarterback Aaron Rodgers when it comes to not having his favorite target? That deal is expected to become official on Wednesday afternoon.

"Nothing starts until tomorrow", the Green Bay Packers first-year general manager said, referring to the league year officially kicking off at 3 p.m.

In a corresponding move, Green Bay is also releasing Jordy Nelson, according to Schefter. He later was honored as the NFL Comeback Player of the Year.

Nelson, who dominated down the stretch of 2016 after returning from a torn ACL suffered the year before, struggled in 2017. "He has been an exemplary professional and teammate and greatly contributed to our success".

"It's been very revealing, when you're able to sit down and watch continuous years of video, more than you've done in the past", noting he wasn't just referring to Cobb and Nelson.

Why did the Packers sign Jimmy Graham? .

Drafted in the second round in 2008 out of Kansas State by Ted Thompson, Nelson blossomed into one of the game's best wideouts - a sideline sorcerer, deep threat and dominant touchdown scorer bunched into one.

Jordy Nelson and his wife, Emily have two sons, Royal and Brooks, and an adopted daughter, Adda Jo. And even though wide receiver wasn't a top need for the Rams to fill, the team may want to consider the possibility of bringing veteran Jordy Nelson on board for the 2018 season.
