House Speaker Michael Busch, a Democrat, said Tuesday that his chamber has every intention of passing a Safe Schools Act.

The Facebook profile page of a Maryland school shooting victim was mistakenly changed to indicate she had died.

It commits $125 million for capital improvements like secure doors and windows, metal detectors and security cameras.

It's not yet clear whether Rollins was then killed by a responding school resource officer or took his own life.

"He's doing well and we're going to do everything to support and promote him and his well-being", Cameron said.

A 14-year-old male student, whom the sheriff had earlier said was in critical condition, was in good condition after treatment at MedStar St Mary's Hospital, according to hospital officials.

Jaelynn was shot Tuesday by 17-year-old Austin Rollins at Great Mills High School in St. Mary's County. The female victim sustained life threatening injuries, and is now in critical condition at University of Maryland Prince George's Hospital Center.

"This [Great Mills High School] armed school resource officer, you're not hearing anyone in #MSM talk about it because it disrupts their narrative", NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch said in one of several tweets Tuesday.

The shooting in Great Mills, located about 70 miles (113 km) south of Washington, came five weeks after a high school massacre in Florida and days before a student-led march in the US capital for tougher gun laws.

Rollins died Tuesday after two other students were wounded and he was confronted by a sheriff's deputy.

The teen was shot Tuesday by 17-year-old Austin Rollins at Great Mills High School in St. Mary's County. It wasn't immediately clear whether Rollins shot himself or was shot by the school resource officer.

The school's principal told parents last month that it had investigated threats of a possible shooting and found they were "not substantiated". His letter was posted on local news site The Bay Net.

They say their investigation has not yet uncovered any significant social media posts or threats posted online by Rollins. The town in St. Mary's County, with a population of about 110,000, is about 65 miles (105 kilometers) from Washington, D.C.

Police say a 17-year-old boy used his father's gun in an attack at his Maryland high school.

Gaskill has been assigned to Great Mills since the start of the school year, and has been with the sheriff's office for nearly six years.

"I have no problem paying for it", she said. She also didn't have the identities of the any of the three injured. He says: "This could've been her".

After Tuesday's shooting in Southern Maryland, Carroll County officials announced that armed officers will now be stationed at some schools, leaving only Baltimore City without armed officers in public schools locally.

Federal Bureau of Investigation spokesman David Fitz says the agents are there to assist the local sheriff's office and he had no immediate information about injuries or fatalities at Great Mills High School.

The shooter was identified as Austin Rollins, a student at Great Mills.

News reports from the time say Gaskill was responding to a reported disturbance.
