Wojnarowski added in a story filed to ESPN that the Celtics are "evaluating further medical options" for Irving's left knee.

Irving underwent a minor procedure on March 24 to remove a tension wire, which remained from a 2015 surgery to fix a fractured kneecap.

According to, Irving had a procedure to remove a tension wire in his knee in late March. But it is a blow to a Celtics team that had been playing well despite a run of recent injuries to key players.

"This season was only a snapshot of what's to come from me", he said in his post.

Kyrie Irving's season has ended prematurely with an unexpected curveball.

"To ensure that no infection remains in the knee, the screws will be removed".

In his first season with Boston, Irving averaged 24.4 points per game, 5.1 assists per game, and 3.8 rebounds per game during the 60 games he played this season. Trust Me. "The journey back to the top of Mt. Everest continues".

The fracture in Irving's patella has completely healed, and his knee remains structurally sound.

But now, no matter how deep into the playoffs the Celtics go, they will be without Irving, which will have a significant impact on Boston in the postseason which begins April 14. Despite likely finishing as the No. 2 seed back east, it's now nearly a foregone conclusion that Boston will ultimately fall short if its championship aspirations.

The team are already without star Gordon Hayward, who suffered a horrific season-ending injury on his debut for the Celtics.

Irving, who was acquired over the summer in a trade with the Cavaliers, had been expected to return at some point after undergoing surgery last month. Bench forward Daniel Theis is out for the season.
