It's unclear the extent of Finau's injury, but hopefully it won't prevent him from playing the Masters on Thursday.

Finau is due to partner Germany's Bernhard Langer and Japan's Yuta Ikeda in Thursday's first round at 18:43 SA time. However, it looked as though he dislocated his ankle while celebrating the feat. "Thanks for thoughts of concern, messages and prayers from all".

Tiger Woods started his long-awaited return to Augusta National by hooking his opening tee shot into the pines.

It was just past year that Dustin Johnson fell down stairs the day before the Masters and was forced to withdraw with a back injury.

Of Tongan and American Samoan descent, Finau is the first person of such ancestry to play on the PGA Tour.

Finau played on in the event with a high ankle sprain. It was a very special day, one I'll never forget'.

Tony Finau will now be known as one of the toughest golfers on the course at the Masters. Dustin Johnson fell down the stairs in his Augusta rental home, and was a late scratch for the 2017 Masters.

Finau finished the Par 3 Contest, and an MRI afterward confirmed a dislocated ankle.
