YANKEES 10, RED SOX 7: Benches clear twice, just like old times

After the game, Yankees manager Aaron Boone had some strong words for the Red Sox and how they handled the situation after New York's 10-7 win. Holt objected to the play and the two jawed, with the benches clearing but no punches thrown. Austin, 26, and Holt, 29, eventually cooled off, and the game resumed. He'll undergo further evaluations, per Evan Drellich of NBC Sports Boston.

New York Yankees right fielder Aaron Judge puts Boston Red Sox relief pitcher Joe Kelly in a headlock after Kelly hit Yankees' Tyler Austin with a pitch during the seventh inning of a baseball game at Fenway Park in Boston. I thought there was nothing wrong with that slide.

Austin was at the center of an incident in the second inning when he slid into second base with his cleats up and hit Red Sox shortstop Brock Holt, inciting a minor fracas. Austin walked toward the mound and was eventually invited by Kelly.

"You know that's coming", Red Sox catcher Christian Vazquez told Ian Browne of MLB.com.

Austin and Kelly were both ejected from the game. "Other than that, Kelly executed perfectly". Yankees hitting coach Marcus Thames shoved Austin across the infield toward the Yankees' dugout.

Vazquez was behind the plate when Tyler Austin charged Joe Kelly, peeved after the Red Sox reliever drilled him in the back.

By the way, the Yankees won, 10-7, to improve to 6-6, while the Red Sox dropped to 9-2.

They'll play the rubber match of this three-game series on Thursday night at Fenway. "I mean, not just those two, they have a pretty big team over there".

However, it seems the Red Sox fully expect the Yankees to retaliate.

After Roger Clemens threw a pitch under Manny Ramirez's chin during the 2003 AL Championship Series, Yankees bench coach Don Zimmer charged Pedro Martinez, who hit Karim Garcia with a pitch earlier.
