Let's check out what everyone had to say about the huge Columbus victory. Trotz gave Grubauer the nod over 2016 Vezina Trophy victor Braden Holtby to start Game 1 but said afterward he'd consider his goaltending options ahead of Game 2 Sunday in Washington.

Panarin hit the goal to the top right corner of the net past Capitals goalie Philipp Grubauer. The choice in net is obviously up to the coaches, and it is going to be an extremely important one, as this series is going to be one of the tightest of any first round series, and losing a game because of a poor start in net is not going to end well for Washington.

For Columbus (45-30-7, first Eastern Conference wild card), Sergei Bobrovsky has been one of the league's top goaltenders but has not carried that success into the postseason. The Capitals failed to make the most of a five-minute power play, gave up a momentum-shifting goal soon thereafter and took costly late penalties that allowed Columbus to come back.

Grubauer got the call for his first career playoff start after outplaying Holtby in the regular season, specifically down the stretch. Also, it's worth noting the Jackets significantly outshot the Caps in each of the four games.

Columbus forward Josh Anderson received a boarding major and a game misconduct for his hit on Washington defenseman Michal Kempny. And just 29 seconds later, yet another power play goal from Kuznetsov to double the home team's lead heading into the first intermission. Backstrom and Carlson assisted on both goals.

Taylor Hall scored an unassisted goal in the second period, then assisted on Travis Zajac's power-play goal that cut it to 3-2 midway through third against Andrei Vasilievskiy. The Blue Jackets have an abundance of young guns, including Dubois, Wennberg, and Bjorkstrand, as well as some more aged goal scorers like Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin.

Jones set the stage for overtime when he tied it 3-3 on the power play with 4:26 left in regulation.

The Washington Capitals on the other hand are in the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 10th time in 11 seasons. He scored again with 6:09 remaining in the second period on a feed from Joe Pavelski. Craig Smith and Colton Sissons scored a goal apiece, and Ryan Johansen had two assists. Columbus has the most goals in the league during the same time span.

Nikita Zadorov and Blake Comeau scored for Colorado. Since March 4, the Blue Jackets have gone 13-2-2 with one of those losses coming in the final game of the season.

Game two goes Saturday at the Garden before the series switches to Air Canada Centre on Monday.

Zach Hyman had the Maple Leafs' only goal and Frederik Andersen had 35 saves.

The news might get worse for the Stanley Cup drought-weary Leafs as forward Nazem Kadri is facing a likely suspension for a unsafe hit on Bruins Tommy Wingels which sent Wingels face first into the side boards.

Like Wennberg, Kempny did not return to the game. The 26-year old left winger had a tremendous season, netting a career high 82 points.
