How to build an Amazon Alexa skill without writing code

Amazon this morning is introducing "Alexa Blueprints", a new way for any Alexa owner to create their own customized Alexa skills or responses, without needing to know how to code.

Skills are Alexa apps that provide Amazon's assistant with additional features.

Once I got over the initial gimmicky phase, it became clear that Alexa Blueprints are strategic on many fronts. Alexa Skill Blueprints are simple templates that anyone can access from Amazon's new site and use to create their own customized Alexa experiences by filling in the blanks. Amazon did not indicate if or when the feature would be available in other regions.

Now Amazon started with templates for houseguests guides, babysitter directions, trivia, compliments and stories, but the company will build out the Alexa Blueprint library. If it's your first time using a template, follow the step-by-step tutorial provided.

The custom questions and answers are surely going to keep Alexa users busy tinkering with the new feature for a while.

Other examples of skills you can create include ones for helping a pet or baby sitter find things around your house; virtual flash cards to help you study; and a Bachelorette Party trivia game. Amazon hasn't set a limit on how many skills can be created by users, but it has set a limit on where the feature is available as it's now only live for users in the US with no word on when it will expand to other regions. You can either use pre-filled content, or add your own. In addition, these personalized Alexa Skills will just add to the smart home, e-commerce and ecosystem moat that surrounds Amazon's business.

The Echo Spot contains second generation far-field technology with four microphones, acoustic beam-forming technology and enhanced noise cancellation so it can hear you from across the room-even while music is playing. Any user can program custom responses to specific questions or commands without any coding or tech skills being required.

After that is done, the "Name" button will take them to the page where they can name the skill.
