Retail Rivals Best Buy and Amazon Team To Sell TVs

Beginning this summer with a TV from Toshiba, the agreement signs Best Buy on to sell more than 10 4K and HD Fire TV Edition models from Insignia and Toshiba to customers in the US and Canada in the future. Some things, like HDR, are not possible to experience at all without being physically present in most cases.

By selling the smart TVs on Amazon, Best Buy could risk pulling sales from its own website and physical stores. However, Best Buy's partnership with Amazon indicates that Amazon doesn't need to make an acquisition to reach consumers who need to see a TV in person before buying it.

While Best Buy and Amazon announced the deal Wednesday, the companies' CEOs, Hubert Joly and Jeff Bezos, sat side by side talking about deal with a handful of reporters on Tuesday. Don't tell that to Best Buy. It has since added other Amazon devices to its lineup including Fire tablets and TV sticks for streaming content.

Best Buy said it plans only to sell the Fire TV models on Amazon's site, and no other products.

The announcement from both companies is so aggressively framed to play down past rivalries that it nearly looks like the companies are protesting another narrative.

Customers in the United States will get access to the first Fire TV Edition smart TV from Toshiba beginning in the summer and additional models to be released later in 2018.

"Amazon and Best Buy have a long history of working together, and today we take our partnership to a new level".

Best Buy further highlights that the TVs will come with Voice Remote included in the package, and users will be able to easily search for what to watch, launch apps, play music, control smart home devices, switch inputs, and more, simply by uttering voice commands to Alexa. "We could not have a better partner in this endeavor".

Recode called the two companies "frenemies".

Bezos said they have been working closely together to make a "killer product".
