ROK and DPRK to hold inter-Korean summit in DMZ peace house

His new national security adviser, John Bolton, has called for a pre-emptive US strike to destroy North Korea's nuclear capacity, even if it provokes a North Korean counter-attack on South Korea that inflames the entire Korean peninsula. Optimists believe it could open the prospect of a peace agreement to formally end the Korean war and start a process leading to denuclearisation on the peninsula.

After meeting with Bolton, Chung said his meeting with the White House security advisor was very substantive and helpful, adding that Seoul and Washington agreed to closely cooperate for the success of the U.S. -DPRK summit.

Every detail of the summit has been precisely planned - from the timetable to the dinner menu.

The two will be escorted by South Korean honour guards to an official welcoming ceremony before beginning official dialogue at 10:30am at Peace House, a South Korean building inside the border truce village of Panmunjom.

The banquet will be held on the South side - and a carefully planned menu has already been announced.

Killough told Newsy, "The third really important objective is, for the South Koreans, is to get Kim Jong-un on paper, on record, saying he's willing to talk about denuclearization". "North Korea has repeatedly lied about the causes of Otto's condition and refuses to acknowledge its abhorrent actions", the suit says.

The data in the latest Chinese study was collected following the most powerful of the North's six nuclear device tests on September 3 that is believed to have triggered four earthquakes over the following weeks.

A tentative thaw began earlier this year with North Korean participation in the Winter Olympics in South Korea's Pyeongchang.

Kim also joked that he hoped Moon would enjoy North Korea's famous cold noodles that will be brought to the banquet after the summit, saying it was hard to bring the noodles from capital Pyongyang.

In a rare move - one not seen at previous inter-Korean summits - the delegation will also feature top military officials and diplomats.

The North's border broadcasts have "notably" died down since the South went off the air but it was hard to know if it was intentional, a South Korean military official said.

The United States stations 28,500 troops in South Korea as a legacy of the Cold War conflict, which pitted the South, the United States and United Nations forces against the communist North, backed by China and Russian Federation.

Moon's entourage included his chief of staff, national security advisor, chief of the intelligence agency and ministers of unification, defense and foreign affairs.

The summit is the high point after months of improving relations between the two countries, which few would have predicted following years of rising tension.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un crossed over to the southern side of the world's most heavily armed border Friday morning to meet South Korean President Moon Jae-in.

To achieve progress, Moon desires to institutionalize a process that reopens the pathway toward peaceful denuclearization that had been closed by escalatory rhetoric, military posturing, and rising risk of conflict in the waning months of 2017.

The White House released a statement saying the U.S. was "hopeful that the talks will achieve progress".
