Lupita Nyong'o for The Killer reboot

The legendary action director is set to revisit his 1989 Hong King crime classic The Killer, with Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong'o potentially poised for the lead. The plot of the original movie revolves around Ah Jong, a killer for hire who accidentally injures the eyes of a singer named Jennie during a shootout.

Woo last directed 2017's "Manhunt". He decides to do one last job in order to pay for eye surgery, but things get complicated by the investigation of a police detective.

The veteran action film director is revamping his 1989 Hong King crime classic and Oscar victor Lupita is in negotiations to star as the assassin, a role originated by Chow Yun-fat.

As per THR, the studio has described the film as a "blistering thriller that blends espionage with extraordinary stunts, an assassin is sworn to protect a young woman she accidentally blinded during a mob hit years prior". We've seen her take home the Academy Award in 12 Years a Slave, and she's thrilled the Marvel Cinematic Universe as a Wakandan spy in Black Panther. Vice president of production Sara Scott will oversee production for Universal. The new script is from Eran Creevy, working off a draft by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken.
