A truck spills tons of liquid chocolate on a Polish highway.

Made from the stuff of Willy Wonka's dreams, a highway in Poland has been covered in chocolate following a tanker crash.

All four lanes of a highway connecting Warsaw to Poznan, in Poland, were closed on Wednesday after a truck spilled 12 tonnes of liquid chocolate onto the road.

TVN24 reported from the site of the accident that the driver was taken to a hospital with a broken arm.

A cleaning crew armed with shovels, an excavator, and hot water-pressure washers began chipping away at the chocolate that turned rock solid in the open air.

"The cooling chocolate is worse than snow", senior firefighter Bogdan Kowalski said.

Authorities are unsure when the cocoa-buttery blockage will be cleared. But despite the sticky situation, firefighters and police attending to the cleanup are reportedly cheerful about the long task ahead.
