Greenberg Traurig's executive chairman Richard Rosenbaum said Giuliani's resignation went into effect Wednesday. The former NY mayor suggested that such payments are commonplace at Greenberg Traurig on cable news earlier this week.

In response to Giulaini's claim, Greenberg Traurig spokeswoman Jill Perry said to The New York Times, "We can not speak for Mr. Giuliani with respect to what was intended by his remarks. Speaking for ourselves, we would not condone payments of the nature alleged to have been made or otherwise without the knowledge and direction of a client", the statement said.

Giuliani said the discussions about preparing the President were merely a precaution at this point and dismissed a suggestion that the discussions meant an interview with Mueller is happening.

The White House has said Trump denies Daniels' claim that she had a consensual sexual encounter with him over a decade ago.

"Michael would take care of things like this like I take care of this with my clients". The payment was made by Cohen prior to the 2016 election to keep private an affair between Daniels and Trump.

Current and former members of Trump's personal legal team reportedly struggled with the idea of the president agreeing to an interview that supporters of the president have suggested would be a "perjury trap".
