Madrid's Gareth Bale scored two goals including an incredible overhead kick after coming off the bench as Karim Benzema struck a freaky opening goal on 51 minutes before Liverpool, who lost leading scorer Mohamed Salah to injury in the first half, replied through Sadio Mane.

Saturday night was one for Liverpool to forget as they crashed out of the Champions League with a 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid and manager Jurgen Klopp was in no mood to hide his emotions after the final whistle.

Liverpool coach Juergen Klopp described the goals as "quite odd". "Maybe when I was 11 or 12 and we lost the cup final or something".

No teammate came to console him and he then lay flat out, face to the turf hiding his tears.

"It's not about him and the mistakes he might have made, it's about the team. I did the best I could and it was not good enough and I have to accept that, that's it".

But both teams now stand on the verge of European glory and ahead of the marquee clash, Sanz felt that Real Madrid's defence has the edge over Liverpool's.

While Bale lapped up the limelight, Karius was left in the doldrums and former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch hinted that his ex-employers should perhaps have retained a previous number one.

"He showed signs as coach (during his playing years)".

In between all that he got buried by maybe the best goal the Champions League goal ever scored, Bale again catapulting himself into the Kiev night to fire an overhead kick into the top corner from a ludicrous height and distance. The Liverpool goalkeeper allowed Bale's shot to squirm through his hands into the net in the 83rd.
