Police investigating video depicting officer punching woman during arrestIn the video you can see 20-year-old Emily Weinman getting breathalyzed by a Wildwood police officer, having been approached for suspicion of underage drinking. She has now been charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, spitting bodily fluids at an officer, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, obstruction and minor in possession of alcohol.

Wildwood Mayor Ernie Troiano Jr. told The Philadelphia Inquirer that the episode was a "shame", but said police would soon release body camera footage showing officers being insulted and spat upon. The officers have been reassigned to administrative duty.

In this instance, much will come down to a thorough review of all the cellphone videos, body cameras on the police officers (if any) and witness statements as to whether she resisted arrest, and if so, whether the officers used only sufficient force to subdue her.

In a lengthy Facebook post, Weinman claims she was targeted by police because family and friends were drinking nearby. "She probably would have just gotten a citation".

Wildwood Police Chief Robert Regalbuto says he finds the video "alarming" but doesn't want to "rush to any judgment" until the investigation is complete.

"OK, I'm done with you... do you have cuffs on you?" one officer says to his partner. To celebrate the American holiday Memorial Day, they had brought alcohol, but they had not drunk any yet when the police arrived and asked her to breathe in a Breathalyzer, which turned out to be negative.

"My daughter is right here seeing this", she said.

Weinman's lawyer, Stephen Dicht, said after viewing the body cam videos, "I don't think it puts the police in a good light".

"Thats when he headlocked me by his arm around my neck, punched on me in my head and then he headlocked me again but this time choking me, I was gasping for air", she said. As for the spitting, Emily explained on Facebook, "The cops smashed my head into the ground when he tackled me and I spit the sand out of my mouth".

The violent arrest was caught on video on Saturday and posted to social media, and has since been viewed over six million times. "She tried to tell us it was okay for her to possess alcohol and that doesn't make any sense".

On Tuesday, the town's mayor appeared to defend the officer's actions. When the officer turns the camera back on, the physical confrontation is underway.
