The image shows hotshot pilot Pete "Maverick" Mitchell, with his familiar calls ign on his flight helmet, preparing to take to the skies in a Navy fighter.

Top Gun was a seminal 80's classic, and whilst a sequel fits right in with Hollywood's obsession with reboots and sequels. He has experience leading a long-awaited sequel, having directed Tron: Legacy, and he has also worked with Cruise before in Oblivion.

Top Gun 2, which likely will have the title of Top Gun: Maverick, is officially happening over at Paramount. Production just started for its July 2019 release in theaters.
