Joachim Low has made the stunning decision to axe Manchester City star Leroy Sane from Germany's World Cup squad for this summer's tournament in Russian Federation.

While the news may come as a seismic shock to people who have exclusively watched Sane in the Premier League this season, those who have a passing awareness of the PFA Young Player of the Year's performances for Germany of late will likely not be totally overwrought.

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan and Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil have all been named in the squad.

Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is included after making his comeback from injury against Austria at the weekend, while Hertha Berlin defender Marvin Plattenhardt also survives the cut.

"Julian Brandt had some good games at the Confederations Cup and was also very good in training, it was close". "Draxler Reus and Müller are set. He will be back again from Sept", Low said. "If it was a 100 metre race, it would have been a photo finish".

He is still one of the most exciting young talents in European football, though, and City colleague Walker is amazed to learn that he will not be joining him in Russian Federation.

Germany are slotted in the Group F of the FIFA World Cup and will face Mexico on 17 June in their tournament opener before locking horns with Sweden and South Korea.
