A young woman discovers an abandoned yellow Volkswagen Beetle in a junkyard, and ends up with more than she bargained for, in the teaser trailer the Transformers spinoff Bumblebee.

Bumblebee from the Transformers is getting his own spin-off movie, and the just-released trailer suggests that it's not the overly flashy spectacle of the franchise's previous entries.

While the above clip doesn't provide much in the way of plot information, it's clear the film is going for a smaller-scale sort of story than its larger-than-life Bay-helmed efforts. The relationship between Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky and Bumblebee was a highlight in the film.

Bumblebee even transforms from a gentle, goofy-looking auto, a yellow original-model Volkswagen Beetle.

For diehard fans of the Transformers franchise, the inclusion of Starscream is probably a very pleasant surprise.

Michael Bay has directed all the Transformers movies to date, but this one is being helmed by Travis Knight.

Fresh off announcing her leading role in an Emily Dickinson TV series and dropping her latest contribution to pop music, Hailee Steinfeld is returning to her movie roots. Charlie takes Bumblebee, seen in his Volkswagen Beetle form as he appeared on the 1980s Transformers cartoon, to the auto shop where she works, nurses him back to health, and shines him up to his former glory - all the while learning that the cutesy vehicle she found herself in possession of is far more than just an ordinary VW Bug. I play a character named Charlie Watson, who is a mechanic.

Bumblebee will hit theaters on December 21st.
