Being named England captain has not changed Harry Kane and the Tottenham striker is more than capable of handling the weight of World Cup expectation, according to teammate Gary Cahill.

Southgate appears to be resisting the temptation to assess Kane and Jamie Vardy as a front pairing in a formal fixture, but the Leicester City forward will start, with Ruben Loftus-Cheek expected to gain a fourth cap. Everything else he has said he talked to us about because we had a meeting with the players a few nights ago.

The experienced members of England's World Cup squad must step up and take some of the pressure off captain Harry Kane to let the striker focus on scoring goals in Russian Federation, defender Gary Cahill has said.

England kick off their World Cup campaign when they take on Tunisia in Volgograd on June 19 before facing Panama five days later in Nizhny Novgorod and rounding out the group phase against Belgium in Kaliningrad on June 29.

"Off the field, there have been other incidents - in August, my mum was racially abused back home in Doncaster".

The Stoke City striker actually has a brilliant record for the Three Lions, scoring 22 in 42 games and playing for his country in two World Cups -including scoring a victor against Trinidad and Tobago in Germany back in 2006.

"When you went through it, Stuart Pearce came through the non-league and Teddy Sheringham from Millwall and I started at (Crystal) Palace".

Southgate said: "For sure Jack Butland plays in goal".

However, Southgate believes walking off in protest at abuse would be counter-productive as he believes England can set an example as one of the most diverse teams in the competition.

Which team are you supporting in the 2018 World Cup?

"I've not got a player in the squad who I would think twice about putting into the opening game of the World Cup. Jesse Lingard's had a good season, you've got Rashford too", said the former Manchester United winger. We had some guys in from the Marines on Tuesday who had lost limbs in different situations.

"Of course there is scrutiny, but we don't want to be involved in matches where there is no possibility of achieving history".
