Kyrie Irving Extension Isn't Happening

I am sure the Celtics would happily give Irving a contract better than Memphis Grizzlies guard Mike Conely; Conely is now in the third year of his five-year, $152 million contract. In case you forgot, Irving said practically the same thing about that possibility back in February. Irving has opted to not sign a contract extension this summer and can leave next summer if he wants to.

Irving said he hasn't started running yet, but he's working his way up.

The point guard addressed his recovery, his emotions amid the long Celtics playoff run without him, his hopes for the future - in the near-term anyway - and even rumors that Boston could be on a list of potential free agency visits for former teammate LeBron James. Teams will always be preparing for their absolute best against them, and nobody will take them off guard. But I think you guys can feel my attitude is really just redemption next year.

Irving, 24, was traded to the Celtics last offseason for fellow All-Star Isaiah Thomas and Jae Crowder, so he can apparently lead a team away from the imposing shadow of a talent like James. Injuries have always been a big concern for Irving, as he only played in 11 games in college at Duke and has never played a full 82 game season in his National Basketball Association career. "That's my hope. But obviously I can't really control that". Because, last time I checked, Irving doesn't owe the Celtics anything. Continually doing that over the past five years that has put Boston in a position to be a legitimate championship contender for the next decade or more. "Really focused on winning a championship, that is all I'm really anxious about, and until I get to that point, I can't really answer any questions".

"Until I get to that point, then I can't really answer any questions. We'll see what happens". For me, I'm just glad everyone got to learn how special they were on a bigger stage. "You saw guys that are literally going to be stars in this league for years to come". That being said, this Celtics team has shown no signs of having any of these mental problems, and it will be exciting to see them deal with championship expectations.

Remember: Irving was only available for a group interview with reporters in Boston on Tuesday because he was promoting his new "Uncle Drew" movie. "I had been talking about how great they were".

Kyrie will be coveted by many teams, but there is one in particular that might generate the most buzz: the New York Knicks. "They gained a lot of experience and now it can only help us going forward".
