The Brazil global who will start his Russian Federation 2018 World Cup campaign against Switzerland on Sunday, accepts he is still ranked below Ronaldo despite being the most expensive player. His focus is fully on the World Cup, with Portugal's next match against Morocco in Moscow next Wednesday.

Ronaldo hopes the Egypt global will be fit to prove his class at the World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal celebrates scoring his side's third goal and a hat trick during the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia group B match between Portugal and Spain at Fisht Stadium on June 15, 2018 in Sochi, Russia.

The other storyline we were following heading into this one was all about Fernando Hierro, how he would handle taking over as the Spanish manager just 48 hours before their World Cup debut.

After last year's hearing, Ronaldo hired defence lawyer Jose Antonio Choclan, a veteran of high-profile legal cases involving Spanish public figures.

Portugal's all-time record scorer Cristiano Ronaldo was the Man of the Match in the six-goal thriller against Spain, matching an unbelievable worldwide record set by an African superstar.

- Cristiano Ronaldo is the first player in history to score in eight consecutive major tournaments (World Cup, European Championships, Copa America).

Spanish publication Don Balon say Ronaldo got wind of Mourinho's comments before the match and was keen to prove him wrong.

"People who criticize him must have some kind of a problem", Spain striker Diego Costa said. "I hope he manages to keep it up", said his Portugal teammate Bernardo Silva.

The World Cup hasn't been where Ronaldo has impressed the most, though.

The Real Madrid forward accepted four charges of fraud in exchange for a reduced penalty and given that his suspended sentence is relatively short, Spanish law dictates that it is unlikely that he will be required to serve any time in jail.

"To win the World Cup would be a dream for Portugal". We are not the favourites so we will try to do our best.
