What could the Cavs trade for Kawhi Leonard?

Leonard, 26, "isn't concerned" about missing out on a supermax deal because there is a "feeling of betrayal" by the Spurs that appears to have done irreparable damage to their relationship, per Chris Haynes of ESPN. The Los Angeles Lakers, reportedly Leonard's preferred destination, have a slew of young players that the Spurs might be interested in. Maybe a rental of Leonard would be good enough?

Scott Bordow of AZCentral.com, however, refuted the notion that Phoenix would be willing to deal the first No. 1 overall pick in franchise history for Leonard. According to Sheridan, however, that's exactly what the San Antonio intends to do. The source suggested that the Spurs' decision to make public that Leonard was cleared to play essentially "hung him out to dry". Leonard eventually sought a second opinion and began working with his advisors and doctors, outside of the Spurs' counsel. Also, general manager Ryan McDonough needs to show growth in the wins and losses column this year or otherwise risk losing his job. Each time, he helped engineer things so that he'd end up on a team with two other all-stars.

Their ownership has been interested in numerous top forwards when they've hit free agency or become available on the trade market.

Unless Cleveland truly believes Kawhi is the key to a title in 2019, then they should stay away.

Therefore, it seems fair to assume that James will now seek a similar arrangement. Especially when you take into account that the Clippers got Harris, Avery Bradley and that No. 12 pick for star forward Blake Griffin during the season.

And if the Lakers ultimately decide against trading for Leonard, they may still be in position to pursue him as a free agent next summer. They also have been linked to Andre Iguodala over the years, most recently showing interest last offseason. Where will Kawhi Leonard be next season and is LeBron James going to leave Cleveland again?

The Spurs have other draft prospects to evaluate in the meantime, as they now hold the No. 18 pick in the first round.
