The Liverpool and Egypt star crashed out of the World Cup in shambolic fashion on Monday as his team conceded a last-gasp goal to Saudi Arabia to finish bottom of Group A.

Off the pitch matters have dogged Salah also.

On Friday, June 22 Kadyrov made Salah an honorary citizen of the Chechen Republic, during a banquet held to say goodbye to the Egypt squad. He told reporters (via the Guardian): "Only what Salah writes on his Twitter account should be counted on".

Egypt are based in Chechnya during the World Cup, and on Saturday Salah's agent Ramy Abbas tweeted that he was "fuming".

Mohamed Salah scored first for Hector Cuper's men before Salman El-Faraj equalised for Saudi Arabia from the spot and Salem El-Dawsari squander Egypt's hopes in gaining at least one point with a victor at the death.

Speculation had grown over the weekend that Mohamed Salah would leave the World Cup prematurely because of a disagreement with the Egyptian Football Federation.

Mo Salah is reportedly growing uncomfortable with the unnecessary attention that he receives, mostly from the political powers which he believes will be unhealthy for his reputation and sport.

The 26-year-old returned 43 goals and 14 assists from 50 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool FC last season, and he was a key player in the club's run to the 2017-2018 Champions League final.

Salah has been criticised by sections of Liverpool's fanbase, who have accused their star striker of allowing himself to be used as a propaganda tool by Kadyrov.

The Liverpool star has come under criticism for partaking in a series of photo's with Kadyrov, with the Chechen leader accused of using the Egyptian to improve his government's worldwide image.

"We were always informed by Salah when he takes any decisions", it said in a statement.

"He has not discussed this issue with any of the delegation's members".

The country's football association used his image rights without his permission before, which potentially put him at risk of financial loss.
