He may or may not be reprising his role as The Joker in the DC Extended Universe, following the muted response to the character in Suicide Squad.

Jared Leto is about to expand his role in the booming superhero film universe, but this time he'll be teaming up with Marvel to play Morbius in Sony's upcoming Spider-Man spinoff.

Espinosa last directed the sci-fi pic Life, and before that Child 44 and Safe House. Although he was Spider-Man's nemesis, the character grew to become heroic in his own right - and had a run of 32 issues through April 1995. Morbius previously appeared on TV in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Ultimate Spider-Man Vs The Sinister Six, and was originally earmarked to make his film debut in Blade until his cameo was deleted and plans to make him the villain in Blade II scrapped.

The film will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach alongside Lucas Foster, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

This isn't Leto's first flirtation with playing a bloodsucker, as in 2016 when director Josh Boone was publicly courting the actor to star as Lestat in a reboot of Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire.

Essentially, the outlet mentions that besides promoting his new album "America" with Thirty Seconds to Mars, Jared Leto has "been busy setting up a film slate that includes a solo Joker movie at Warner Bros".

With the Tom Hardy-headlining Venom opening this October and Spider-Man: Far From Home launching next July, movie-goers look set for a web-tastic season.

Recently, we discussed just how many Joker movies Jared Leto has in the works.
