Senegal vs. Colombia - Football Match Preview

Jose Pekerman has refused to entertain the prospect of seeing Colombia's stuttering World Cup campaign end with their final Group H clash against Senegal on Thursday.

Coach Aliou Cisse was critical of his pacy and powerful side after their 2-2 draw with Japan on Sunday, saying their opponents were the better team, and called on forward Mane to step it up.

Going into the final round of games in Group H, Japan and Senegal have four points, Colombia have three and pointless Poland are already eliminated.

The Lions of Teranga have faced South American opposition only once in the tournament's history: a 3-3 draw with Uruguay in the 2002 showpiece.

"He can do better, but he was better against Japan than he was against Poland and he needs to do better against Colombia".

Colombia might control the run of play and create more chances, but Senegal will be risky on the counter-attack.

"We came here for more, so it wouldn't be a good result for us not to reach the second round", Pekerman said. "I think the best team on the pitch was Japan, I have to be honest".

Sadio Mane found the net against Japan, the 15th match he'd scored in for Senegal - they are yet to lose any of those (W9 D6).

In Group H, three teams are fighting it out for two qualification spots.

Colombia have scored four goals from seven shots on target at the 2018 World Cup, scoring three goals from four shots on target in their 3-0 win over Poland.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup lives of Senegal and Colombia are on the line. Should Senegal lose and Japan are thrashed that would also open the way for an African representative in the last 16 to join the the 10 from Europe. They returned to form in style on Sunday evening and with Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez hitting their straps that should prove to be the difference.
