Last December, the 33-year-old said the environment at Staples Center is one his favorites, particularly for games on Christmas Day. If reports about James' intentions are to be believed, things are going to heat up quickly from here.

Handy admits that he has no direct, insider knowledge of the situation or of LeBron's thought process, but he does offer some insight into what James might be thinking. It sucks.' And then it went from there to saying, 'Yo, let's do it together'.

Houston does not have cap space, so the best way for it to acquire James would be through a trade after he picked up his player option.

Two of the main competitors on this front?

LeBron James probably won't join the Rockets. It has seemed to be a foregone conclusion he will return to the Golden State Warriors, and that's still by far the most likely scenario for him.

The decision will make the four-time MVP the headliner of a star-studded free-agent class that includes Paul George, Chris Paul and DeMarcus Cousins, among others.

That's not an option anymore.

Per multiple reports, James has informed the Cavaliers that he plans on opting out of the final year of his contract and will become an unrestricted free agent.

In the meantime, it sure is fun to speculate on KD and LeBron teaming up.

Cam also discusses Kawhi Leonard reaching out to LeBron James.

That leaves us with three real contenders for his services: his hometown Cavaliers, the Lakers, and your hometown 76ers.

James can officially make a decision on a new team starting Sunday at 12:01 a.m. ET. Of course, Leonard, who had one year remaining on his contract, would have to be dealt by the Spurs and it remains to be seen if Los Angeles has the pieces that would make sense for San Antonio. Supplemental moves would need to be made, sure, but the top-end talent is already in place. But James's opt-out doesn't eliminate Cleveland as an option.

What motivates his forthcoming decision is hard to say. "I didn't realize that four years ago". The Lakers have the assets, but it has to be more than Ingram and a future pick. Rumors about multiple teams being in the hunt for the three-time National Basketball Association champion have already started.

So they would have to find ways to fit him under their cap, possibly by dumping salaries. But while Cleveland will face stiff competition in trying to bring James back, Gilbert reportedly has grown comfortable with the idea of the greatest player in franchise history finding a new home.
