Police Find 10 Blindfolded Family Members Dead In Their Home

Police in Delhi are exploring whether the deaths of 11 members of a family in Burari were under the influence of "spiritual practices" after some handwritten notes were discovered in the house.

Police were called the home in India's capital on SUnday morning and later said there was no sign of forced entry into the house.

The eyes and mouths of those found hanging were covered with cloth and tape, the hands and feet of the two minor boys were found tied, the police said. This angle was being investigated and a case of murder registered, the statement by Delhi Police said.

But he said that no suicide note was found, and that police were investigating whether the victims - a 77-year-old woman, her two sons and their wives, a daughter and five grandchildren - died by suicide or were killed.

The family had been living in the house for more than two decades, the Hindustan Times reported.

A neighbour who refused to believe that it was a case of mass suicide said Lalit and Bhupinder were very friendly persons. 'We can't rule out anything, ' he said.

The house belonged to a businessman who ran a dairy and a plywood shop.

The newspaper said that at around 8 a.m. Sunday, a neighbour with whom the businessman used to go for morning walks went to see him and found the door of the house open and the 10 people, including the businessman, hanging.

"We are investigating all possible angles including suicide, foul play".

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said he spoke to area residents, saying that everyone was shocked by the deaths.

Priyanka's cousin Ketan Nagpal recalled that she was discussing the preparations for her wedding last night. "They were helpful and humble", said one of the neighbours. They are unable to comprehend how it happened. "However, the investigation as of now points more towards suicide", Kumar said, adding that there were no signs of struggle on the bodies. When he went to investigate, he found the bodies.

Police are now reviewing surveillance footage in the area as well as interviewing neighbors to determine what happened.

Special commissioner of police Sandip Goyal and joint commissioner of police Rajesh Khurana also visited the scene.
