Homan said he has "mixed emotions" about the leaving his post in the middle of a "fight" with those who are unfairly vilifying the agency and President Trump.

And Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of NY told CNN late Thursday 'you should get rid of it, start over, reimagine it and build something that actually works'.

Her comments follow similar sentiments expressed by Sen.

"The culmination of all those things, going to the border and then when the president started talking about getting rid of due process, was it", he said. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand of NY is among a growing number of mainstream elected officials now supporting the idea of getting rid of the agency created in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.

Democrats have used the controversy around the president's immigration policy to rally their base and bring attention to the #AbolishICE movement.

"I am confident and hopeful that it will not last long and that it will not last forever, because of every single individual who's on this block today", Ocasio-Cortez told the crowd.

"Leftwing Activists are trying to block ICE officers from doing their jobs and publicly posting their. home addresses - putting these selfless public servants in harm's way", Trump wrote. "They were threatening our family members", one officer said, declining to elaborate. Whatever the details, the focus on ICE could cause problems for some potential candidates with more conservative records on immigration. Earlier this year, Biden headlined a private event with the Latino Victory Project in Miami.

"To the great and fearless men and women of ICE, do not worry or lose your spirit", Mr. Trump tweeted.

"I'm not a radical, and I'm not an activist", Kate Sharaf, a co-organizer of a march in Portland, Oregon, said.

They all think ICE should be disbanded and its work handled by a different, more capable agency.
