Those are the words that Paula Godwin of Arizona used to describe her golden retriever, Todd, who she credits with saving her life.

Instead, the snake bit Todd in the face, and Godwin was uninjured.

Godwin says on Facebook that Todd is recovering and is "being a normal puppy".

Goodwin immediately took him to an animal hospital where they treated his bite and gave him some much-needed TLC.

Todd is now recovering after the unsafe snake attack.

"That snake would have bit my leg for sure and he is absolutely my hero", Godwin told 7News. It was a lovely morning but as we were walking down the hill I literally nearly stepped on a ... rattlesnake.

"Just a thank you to all the support Your kindness and support is truly a blessing", Godwin wrote in the post, where she is kissing her hero on less-swollen muzzle. She later shared photos showing the golden retriever with a facial wound.

A GoFundMe has been created on behalf of Todd to help other dogs and owners with anti-venom payments. He's expected to make a full recovery and has been rewarded our fifth ever 15/10'.

This is how Paula Godwin's dog Todd looked after his battle with the snake.

"We don't deserve dogs", one user stated, while another stated "dogs are the best people".
