Warriors Sign DeMarcus Cousins to 1 Year Deal

He spurned those doomsayers, however, by coming back better than ever and averaging 24.6 points per game in his three seasons after the injury (including a stunning 29.9 in the first year back from the injury).

Cousins earned his fourth straight selection for the NBA All-Star Game last season and was slated to start the annual contest until a ruptured Achilles tendon in his left leg on January 26 sidelined him for the rest of the year.

Cousins is an astronomical upgrade over Golden State's previous centers, Zaza Pachulia, Kevon Looney and JaVale McGee.

With James locked in for four years, and Leonard is a free agent in 2019 the desperation for the Lakers is gone.

That kind of mentality actually may be reassuring for Lakers fans - perhaps the team is not so hellbent to get James that they would sacrifice young players like Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, and Josh Hart or future draft picks.

However, it's certainly a risk that the Warriors are willing to take to acquire a superstar for just the mid-level exception.

DeMarcus Cousins is returning from a torn Achilles tendon. Bosh has not retired, instead, a joint medical review by the National Basketball Association and players union ruled Bosh out for last season, it was believed to be a career-ending illness.

Smith later added that he has not heard that directly from Leonard or anyone else associated with his camp, but said not to rule out anything when it comes to the Spurs' all-star forward. "That's my own personal goal, so we'll see what happens".

He told The Undefeated in May that he is "for sure" open to re-signing with the Pelicans, but he also acknowledged the uncertainty of his situation as he prepared to hit free agency for the first time. "But for me, I'm shooting to be ready for training camp".

A day later, a source told ESPN that Cousins said it "might be time" to play in a major market after having spent his career to date in Sacramento and New Orleans.

Cousins is a game-changing player when healthy as arguably the best center in the league when healthy. He was averaging 25.1 points, 12.8 rebounds and 5.3 assists alongside fellow All-Star Anthony Davis, putting him in line for a massive contract extension.
