Olivia replaces the utterly brilliant Claire Foy as Lizzie, a role which bagged her a Golden Globe for the Netflix series in 2017.

Foy, 33, who earned a best actress Golden Globe for her portrayal of the Queen past year, has previously said she will "miss the role terribly".

Season three of Netflix's "The Crown" is now filming, and is expected to debut on the streaming service in all its British glory some time in 2019.

Claire Foy has played Queen Elizabeth II in The Crown for two seasons now, but as the show progresses, it has been time to change up the actors.

The Broadchurch actress can be seen posing at the dining room table going in for a sip of tea, just as we imagine the queen does regularly, and we think she bears a striking resemblance to the real thing. Someone has to bring their own fatigue to it, ' he explained.

The cast for the new season includes Olivia Colman (the Queen), Tobias Menzies (Prince Philip), Helena Bonham Carter (Princess Margaret) and Jason Watkins (Harold Wilson).

"I'm so thrilled to be part of "The Crown, '" Colman wrote in a statement shared by Netflix on Twitter Monday".

In addition to the needed time jump to progress the series, the actor change is a mantra-come-to-life from the series, in which we are repeatedly told that the importance is The Crown, and not she who wears it.

The Crown season 3 is expected to air on Netflix later this year.
