'Open Treason': Trump slammed by media, everywhere but Russian Federation

Colbert dedicated a two-part "Double Stuf Oreo" version of his opening monologue to Trump and Putin after the two leaders met for a summit in Helsinki on Monday, just days after the US indicted 12 Russian military intelligence agents for allegedly hacking DNC servers ahead of the 2016 election.

"This is shameful", said Senator Jeff Flake, a fellow Republican and staunch critic of the president. Bob Corker of Tennessee.

Before the meeting began at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki, Mr Trump told reporters: "We have a lot of good things to talk about, and things to talk about". The White House correspondent for the Associated Press became the hero we all needed when he boldly went where Mr Trump would not. A wary and robust stance toward Russian Federation has been a bedrock of his party's world view.

Those are words I never thought I would write about an American president - even one as boorish and bigoted as Trump. "Trump just colluded with Russian Federation".

"Yeah. Yeah, I do", Colbert said.

James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence, charged that Trump "essentially capitulated and seems intimidated by Vladimir Putin".

PIFER: Trump's acceptance of Putin's denial of election-meddling over the considered judgment of the US intelligence community (and the growing number of indictments of individual Russians) is astonishing.

Trump couched the summit as a triumph of diplomacy, saying he was demonstrating statesmanship by agreeing to the meeting with Putin and savaging those who have expressed concern over its timing and what might have been on the table.

Senator John McCain called it, "one of the most disgraceful performances by an American president in memory", while Senator Ben Sasse called it "bizarre".

Spokespeople for the Justice Department and Mueller declined to comment on Trump's comments or on Putin's purported offers for assistance.

Coat's predecessor, James Clapper, called Trump's acquiescence to Putin "an incredible capitulation", while former Central Intelligence Agency chief John Brennan labelled it "nothing short of treasonous". Putin, for his part, appeared slightly bored at times - avoiding eye contact with trump as he spoke, leaning sideways in his chair. Republican patriots: "Where are you?"

In a Fox News Channel interview after the summit, Putin pronounced the meetings "the beginning of the path" back from the West's past efforts to isolate Russian Federation.

"As I said today and many times before, "I have GREAT confidence in MY intelligence people".

On Syria, Trump indicated that he and Putin are working with Bibi Netanyahu, who wants all Iranian forces and Iran-backed militias kept far from the Golan Heights.

In their totality, Trump's remarks amounted to an unprecedented embrace of a man who for years has been isolated by the United States and Western allies for actions in Ukraine, Syria and beyond.

A post-NATO trip to Britain, supposedly America's partner in a "special relationship", was riddled with controversy as well.

The lawyer's recent statements have caused some to speculate he may be cooperating with Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into possible Russian collusion in the 2016 election.

Hours after his appearance with the USA president, Putin repeated his longstanding denial that Moscow interfered in the 2016 election in a bid to boost Trump's candidacy in an interview with the Fox News host Chris Wallace. Browder was a driving force behind a US law targeting Russian officials over human rights abuses. These were the deliberate choices of a president who seems determined to realize his delusions of a warm relationship with Putin's regime without any regard for the true nature of his rule, his violent disregard for the sovereignty of his neighbors, his complicity in the slaughter of the Syrian people, his violation of worldwide treaties, and his assault on democratic institutions throughout the world.

"Our relationship with Russian Federation has NEVER been worse thanks to many years of USA foolishness and stupidity and now, the Rigged Witch Hunt!"

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi was quick to condemn Trump's performance in Helsinki, tweeting: "Just several days ago, 12 Russians were indicted for attacking our democracy". He got a formal summit with President Trump, which helps his spin that Russian Federation is no longer isolated. He nodded along to some of Mr Trump's remarks before they were translated, showcasing his fluency in English.

Universally sympathetic to Trump, they described the American as hobbled by domestic political challenges - a problem that Putin doesn't face after 18 years of stifling opposition.

Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in Helsinki nearly an hour late, tossed off his jacket while still on the tarmac and climbed into a new Russian-made limousine on its first foreign tour.
