The trailer showcases the very start of the Thirteenth Doctor's adventures, given that we see her still wearing the clothes that Peter Capaldi's Twelfth Doctor last wore.

The Doctor Who Comic-Con panel was the major ticket at the world's biggest pop culture convention, and the highlight of its opening day.

The trailer for Doctor Who Season 11, starring Jodie Whittaker as the Time Lord's first female incarnation, was released at San Diego Comic Con Thursday.

Whittaker will be joined by an all-new cast of characters in the series, including Bradley Walsh, Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill.

Well, besides a glimpse of the Doctor's new sonic screwdriver, there were a few teases with a short video of the new season.

I hope the BBC continues this trend, and trusts Chibnall enough to keep any of his major surprises, well, a surprise. I really love television when it's a communal experience ... I think it will be really awesome and I want you guys to all be talking about it at the same time...and you're not going to want to be spoiled, frankly'. "Because we are, and we want you all on our journey with us".

After years of silence and a vague not-quite-cliffhanger ending to season 6, it looks like the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars series will get a proper send-off after all. A little girl dressed as Whittaker's Doctor who blogs about the show asked whether the actor would bring a woman's touch to the Tardis, and Whittaker kindly and deftly explained she doesn't typically approach a role thinking about the fact she's a woman. And it's true; as the trailer emphasizes, pretty much everything is new.

In addition to its new ensemble, Season 11 will also feature a fresh take on the sonic screwdriver. You can watch it here if you haven't seen it yet.

"The thing about this role, which is why it is so fantastic for any actor to play the role, is that essentially gender is irrelevant, and that's completely liberating", Whittaker said.

I also need to say that I'm definitely liking her costume a lot more, now that I'm seeing it in action. "Sometimes in episodes, people's response is different because they're speaking to a woman", she said. There is no role I have ever played that has, or will ever, come close to this.

The official word is Doctor Who will return sometime between September and December this year. "There is no barrier to entry this year".

If there's one thing that's disappointing about this trailer, it's the length. "It's 10 standalone episodes, there's no two-parters or anything like that", Chibnall said.

Playing to cheers in Hall H, the footage had some SDCC royalty as well.
