Speaking to LCFC TV, Ward said: "I'm delighted to be here and I'm really looking forward to the future with this Football Club".

Liverpool on Thursday signed Brazil goalkeeper Alisson from Roma in a world record deal valued at 72.5 million euros by the Italian club.

The Wales global also represented his country at the European Championships in 2016, replacing the injured Wayne Hennessey for their opening clash against Slovakia.

Klopp explained: "It's completely normal, the guy who is the longest-serving for the club and most experienced [is given the armband], so that was clear".

Ward is reportedly joining the Foxes as back-up to Denmark worldwide Kasper Schmeichel - although their own title-winning stopper has been linked with Chelsea and Roma, following his efforts in the Premier League and this summer's World Cup in Russian Federation. He developed in their Under-18s and Under-23s sides before being promoted to the Reds' first team and gaining valuable senior experience on loan to Morecambe and Aberdeen.

That means at least £1 million for the fifth tier side, or a couple of transfers for fellow National League side Salford City in today's money.
