He was dealt to the Seattle Mariners in 2015 but returned to the Blue Jays in 2016 after signing a three-year deal. Happ, held back in case a starting pitcher was needed to throw multiple innings if the game was tied after nine, pitched the 10th inning and earned the save. The day before, on a conference call with reporters, Cashman talked up his bullpen and young pitching prospects as a strong fallback in case he couldn't add a starter. "If it means that someone goes to triple-A, that's a good scenario for an organization".

Happ will provide NY with a stabilizing presence in their rotation as the southpaw has been one of the most consistent starters in baseball in recent seasons.

NY began the day 5 1/2 games behind Boston, the AL East leader.

Over 12 Major League seasons with the Phillies (2007-10), Astros (2010-12), Blue Jays (2012-14, '16-18), Mariners (2015) and Pirates (2015), he has gone 102-82 with a 3.95 ERA (1,467.0 IP, 1,397 H, 692 R/644 ER, 540 BB, 1,294 K, 179 HR) in 273 career games (248 starts).

With the acquisition of Drury and McKinney, Atkins said the Blue Jays would pivot to the hard task of trying to obtain young, controllable pitching. Third baseman Brandon Drury and outfield prospect Billy McKinney lead to Toronto.

Severe migraines and blurry vision sent Drury to the disabled list for most of April, but he returned to action on May 10 and has played consistently since then.

Drury has played in just 10 games for NY since and has spent most of the season at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, where he is hitting.294 with five homers and 30 RBIs in 55 games. But he only played 18 games for NY this season as the Yankees moved ahead by graduating Gleyber Torres and Miguel Andujar to the big club. He is hitting.230 with 13 homers and 35 RBIs in 62 games this year for Class A Tampa, Double-A Trenton and Scranton. The Dallas, Texas, native was acquired by the Yankees along with RHP Adam Warren, INF Gleyber Torres and OF Rashad Crawford from the Chicago Cubs in exchange for LHP Aroldis Chapman on July 25, 2016.

Toronto also claimed right-handed pitcher Oliver Drake on waivers from the Los Angeles Angels, and said Drake will report to the Major League roster.
