Before Meyer was placed on administrative leave, Kristin Balboni of Stadium gave a sit-down interview with Smith's ex-wife, Courtney Smith, who discussed the domestic violence against her ex-husband, and former Ohio State receiver coach, Zach Smith, and what Meyer and his wife knew about them.

Meyer and Ohio State athletics director Gene Smith signed the amendment March 27.

The Buckeyes coach was suspended Wednesday, a month away from the highly ranked team's opening game, as Ohio State investigates whether he chose to ignore his subordinate's violence, reports NPR member station WOSU.

In April, Ohio State announced that its governing board had approved a two-year contract extension for Urban Meyer that raised his compensation for the 2018 season to $7.6 million.

Offensive coordinator Ryan Day will be the team's acting head coach during the investigation. "We are focused on supporting our players and on getting the truth as expeditiously as possible".

There are a set of facts to work with moving forward, starting with the criminal trespass and past allegations against Zach Smith that started this whole mess that has tripped up Meyer's smooth-running machine just two days before training camp.

"I was never told anything", Meyer said. This includes an accusation of domestic abuse from October 25, 2015 that McMurphy reported on last week shortly before Zach Smith's abrupt termination.

Last week, Zach Smith was terminated. Courtney Smith said Shelley Meyer agreed to notify her husband, although she never confirmed if she did. Meyer denied knowing about the abuse before Smith was sacked in July when the accusations came to the public.

Smith was sacked in July, and Meyer denied knowing of the 2015 incident between Smith and his ex-wife, Courtney Smith. His overall record as a head coach at the end of the 2009 season was 96-18 and his winning percentage of.842 back then was ranked first nationally among other active college football head coaches.

"I was never told about anything", Meyer told reporters. Zach Boren - a former fullback and linebacker at Ohio State - posted a pair of tweets in response to the development.

At Big Ten media days, Meyer said that he had been informed of that incident at the time and passed it along to his superiors, noting to the assembled media that "what was reported wasn't actually what happened" and that the Smiths were a "very young couple". I've never had a conversation about it.

Meyer continued, "I don't know who creates a story like that". "Once he gets his chance to tell his side of events, don't be surprised when it is corroborated by every police who ever responded to Ms. Smith's calls". He said he received a text message in July relating to another alleged incident in 2015 that involved Zach Smith, but "there was nothing".
