Rep. Deb Dingell (D-Mich.) on Monday said the "optics" of Donald Trump Jr.

What are the details?

Trump's tweet, however, conflicts with a statement that Trump Jr. released to the New York Times in July 2017, as the newspaper prepared to report about the meeting.

President Trump dismissed news reports Sunday that he's anxious about legal trouble for his son related to the special counsel's investigation, and continued his attacks on the media. At the time, Trump and his White House had falsely claimed that he had only offered his input into the crafting of the statement.

And Trump once again defended the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting, in which his son met with a Kremlin-connected lawyer saying it was "totally legal", and that he had not known about it. In it, lawyers stated that Trump had dictated the statement written aboard Air Force One as it flew back from the G-20 summit in Germany.

Trump has denied he had any prior knowledge of the meeting and repeated that claim on Sunday. Working with a foreign national with the intent of influencing a US election could violate multiple laws, according to legal experts. He campaigned for a Republican candidate facing a tough race Tuesday for a seat in the House of Representatives, the last special election before the nationwide November 6 voting, when the entire 435-member House is being contested and a third of the 100-member Senate.

In addition, If Trump is subpoenaed by a special counsel investigating contacts between the 2016 Trump election campaign and Russian Federation, his lawyers will attempt to quash it in court, one of Trump's lawyers said on Sunday. Trump seems to be arguing against his own point by assuring us that he had nothing to do with this meeting, which - oh, by the way - was totally on the up-and-up.

Last night various USA outlets, including the Washington Post, CNN and AP, reported that Trump was anxious his son could be in legal trouble over the meeting.

At the time, Donald Trump Jr issued a statement explaining that he and the lawyer, Natalia Veselnitskaya (pictured), had "primarily discussed a programme about the adoption of Russian children". "And there was a lot of information that was gathering, and as my colleague Rudy Giuliani said, I had bad information at that time".

'They are very risky & sick!'

Any legal battle over whether the president can be forced to testify could go all the way to the US Supreme Court, the lawyer, Jay Sekulow, said on ABC's This Week show.

"So when you look at a meeting - when you look at a meeting, George, that took place in - a - a year before the (ph) - now two years ago, the question is what law, statute or rule or regulation's been violated?"
