Phil Foden created the opening with a driving run before sliding a pass to Sergio Aguero, who took a touch before driving low into the corner past ex-City keeper Willy Caballero from the edge of the box. Foden created the first goal for Aguero and Bernardo created the second one, making the most of the space Chelsea left in front of their back four.

Two of Argentina's starting players at the 2018 FIFA World Cup were the stars for their European club team as Sergio AGUERO and Angel DI MARIA both netted twice with Lautaro MARTINEZ giving Inter the win.

All eyes were on Jorginho, the man touted as the magician who would facilitate Chelsea playing Sarriball from day one. During his time at Napoli, Sarri fielded a midfield three of Allan, Jorginho and Marek Hamsik. "We would like to find maybe one more because we don't have players to substitute Fernandinho, but if he doesn't come then we will stay as we are". He was only a little better as the match wore on and Sarri must hope it was just a case of first night nerves.

The squad will be nearly identical to the one that smashed all sorts of Premier League records last season and they're understandablyodds-on shots to be the first to retain the Premier League title in ten years but a disrupted start to their 2018/19 campaign is a distinct possibility.

But on Sunday he looked a proper first teamer, several times bursting forward from the halfway line to link well with the equally impressive Bernardo Silva and Aguero.

Upfront, Alvaro Morata will be aiming to exorcise the demons of the 2017-18 season, looking to kickstart the new campaign on a positive note.

"Like Willian, Hazard is world class now and, if Chelsea are to have a successful season, then Sarri can not afford to lose either of them".

There were promising signs for Chelsea though, mainly the encouraging performance from Callum Hudson-Odoi. Having Eden Hazard back after his post-World Cup break will be a major boost.

Moving away from a three-man defence means players adapting to slightly different positions and a new shape, and some fine-tuning is required before they can really show what they could be capable of this season.

"Sometimes you say some things in the heat of the dressing room", he said. But with driven boss Guardiola at the helm, they seem certain to be back among the silverware this term.

"We played again at the level of last season in our first game with the players just [having] five or six training sessions, not too much".

Although Conte won the FA Cup at Wembley in May, he paid the price for Chelsea's slump from league winners to fifth place, leaving the 2012 Champions League winners out of Europe's elite competition this year.
