Authorities in Florida confirmed a young girl has died after someone threw her into a body of water in the Tampa area this week.

A member of the TPD dive team discovered the unconscious child underwater at about 4:30 p.m., according to police. The child was rushed to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say it all started at 3:09 p.m. Thursday when Denson stole a Nissan Altima from a auto lot in Tampa.

Police spokesman Steve Hegarty told the Times that police arrested the woman after she was found walking close to the scene.

Denson is accused of stealing a car from an auto fix shop, then parking the vehicle on North Rome Avenue, police said. The suspect then parked the auto on Rome Avenue just north of Aileen Street at which time, witnesses told police the suspect waded into the Hillsborough River with her child.

Shakayla Denson, 26, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Je'Hyrah Daniels. Once Denson was roughly halfway across the river, she tossed JeHyrah and began wading out. "It's a insane world we live in".

The woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was arrested a short time later not far from the scene.

She said she didn't see a child, but thought something wasn't right.

Vicki Walker told 10News she saw Denson in the river from her condo balcony.

A witness was quoted by as saying that Denson forcefully removed the child from the vehicle.

That's when she shrugged off the child and swam back to shore, leaving the girl to drown. They were by themselves in the river so I don't know why I took a picture. The investigation was closed Tuesday after no evidence of maltreatment, abuse or neglect was found, the agency said.

Investigators said they're still piecing together what led to the tragedy.
