Mourinho had implied Pogba - whose agent Mini Raiola has reportedly been talking with Barcelona - had flourished under Didier Deschamps at the World Cup because he could not be distracted by his entourage or by his commercial obligations.

In his first season, under former boss Louis van Gaal, he made 16 league appearances - his most at Old Trafford during a single league campaign.

Pogba's future as a Manchester United player is uncertain despite the France global being handed the captain's armband for their opening Premier League game against Leicester.

Chris Sutton believes Jose Mourinho's criticism of Paul Pogba is ultimately self-defeating, noting how the club needs him more than he needs Manchester United.

The relationship between Pogba and Mourinho came under scrutiny on numerous occasions last season, while the France international's performances at this summer's World Cup led to claims that Mourinho could not get the best out of the midfielder.

"There are things that I can not say otherwise I will get fined", commented Pogba.

Although he hasn't said anything to further inspire more exit talk, he hasn't done anything to make it go away either.

It had even been suggested that Barcelona were prepared to take the so-called Philippe Coutinho approach to their pursuit of Pogba, meaning that the Catalan club was willing to wait until January to get the deal done. We're focused on the league, so it's best to ask [Eric] Abidal, [Ramon] Planes or Pep Segura about players.

"That's my plan, although everything is up in the air until the window closes".

The two players were seen quarreling over who should take the spot-kick, which was won just minutes into their Premier League opener at Old Trafford.

"I think the players, everybody loves him, the fans love him", Wright said of Pogba on BBC Radio 5 Live. I do not say it for this player [Pogba].
