The 23-year-old left-back has endured a hard last few seasons, mainly due to fitness issues, and many expected him to leave Old Trafford this summer, a period fraught with weight concerns played out across social media.

Not only did Zidane hail Pogba in 2016 (The Guardian), but The Mirror also reported in November that Zidane wanted to rescue Martial from his United struggles and take him to Real Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane allegedly wants to replace Jose Mourinho as Manchester United manager in 2019. "But I believe he will be available by the end of the month".

Pogba is prepared to wait until January or next summer, but meanwhile his relationship with Mourinho will come under more scrutiny amid fears it has reached breaking point.

Pogba has refused to quell the uncertainty over his future and said: "There are things that I can not say otherwise I will get fined".

However, Braida appears to have done his bit to dampen speculation, telling Radio Sportive: "I don't think we're going to move for Pogba, but he's a great player". You don't really know the team, you don't really know the players, and you don't know how they're going to perform from one week to the next.

According to the Metro, the player could join his teammates for training this week, with United's fitness coaches said to be impressed with his progress.

A furious Mourinho told Pogba he did not appreciate those comments and added, "If you wish to leave Manchester, again, all you have to do is ask for a transfer".

Former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs was also among the list, while Antonio Conte, Luis Enrique and Brendan Rodgers, of all people, are also linked.

Even if the two can resolve their differences, it is unlikely to alter Pogba's determination to leave Old Trafford for a second time.
