Guardians of the Galaxy 3 has stopped production

Now, the Hollywood Reporter has been informed that production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has stopped.

Whilst Gunn had mentioned there were already sizeable chunks of script written for the movie that Disney were apparently going to go ahead with, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed the movie is now on hold. Crew members have been told that they are free to look for other work, the publication has learnt.

Ever since Disney cut ties with Guardians of the Galaxy writer and director James Gunn, there has been an outpouring of support for Gunn. The Guardians team will next be seen in Avengers 4 when it releases on May 3, 2019. The project was to have gone into full pre-production mode this year. A source told THR that the pause was necessary to "re-group".

Gunn, of course, was famously fired from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 after Cernovich uncovered a slew of almost decade-old tweets in which Gunn made jokes about rape and pedophilia.

Marvel should be celebrating the box office and critical success of the Oscar-worthy Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War, where the Guardians were involved in numerous film's best scenes, but instead, they're now dealing with the fall-out of Gunn's controversial dismissal.

Just yesterday, Bautista retweeted a post that highlighted the vicious tactics used by far-right agitator Mike Cernovich, who was one of the ringleaders in the campaign to have Gunn fired.

Taika Waititi, who directed the crowd-pleasing Thor: Ragnarok, reportedly recently had a meeting with Marvel, "but it is unclear what project was discussed".
